Emma Melton is a recent graduate from the University of Leeds. Her practice explores ideas of how women have been portrayed and perceived throughout history and how they in turn perceive themselves. Her figurative drawings and paintings explore her interest in inner female emotions, elements of loneliness/otherness, fantasy and the historical idea of woman as mad.
Past work has focused on the depiction of women in the media, ideas of beauty as a form of punishment and beauty as religion.
